This crown jewel of the University’s Great Lawn is an USGBC LEED Silver facility that includes a large presentation room, University President’s offices, tutoring spaces, group study areas, public meeting rooms, office spaces. The building also features a translucent fire rated glass floor beneath the dome that goes clear when energized.

The mechanical system is a variable-air-volume (VAV) system that serves series fan powered and shut-off type terminal units with hydronic reheat coils. Also included are AHUs and two high efficiency, gas-fired boilers. Campus chilled water was extended to the building to satisfy the facility’s cooling needs.

A central building automation system allows control of the mechanical systems and monitoring/control of the electrical lighting and power systems.

LED lighting was installed throughout the building. The lighting controls system includes occupancy sensors and programmable lighting relay panels for time-of-day controls. Presentation and large gathering spaces are controlled via single room dimming controls systems. Building facade lighting was provided to highlight architectural features such as the columns, dome, and cupola. LED handrail lighting provides lighting to the monumental staircase fronting the building.

A 175 kW natural gas generator provides backup power to the critical life safety loads, telecommunication equipment, and elevators.
