This project is for the design of a new 36,500 sf Aquatics Center addition which will connect to the existing Dr. Clarence V. Cuffee Community Center in Chesapeake. The design includes an 8-lane competition pool, splash pad, water playground, diving well, bench seating for instruction, men’s and women’s locker rooms, family changing area locker room, therapy room, classrooms, check-in desk, office, lifeguard room, and mechanical, electrical, and fire protection, and aquatics support spaces. The facility will also provide therapeutic exercise opportunities to those with special needs.

An additional Bid Option will add a Weight Room and add a jogging track located above the existing Gymnasium and extending into a 2nd Floor level of the Addition. Entrance into the addition will be through the existing Cuffee Community Center main entrance.

The competition and recreational pools will be enclosed by a storefront glass structure with a retractable roof. The design of the new Aquatics Center will match the existing Dr. Clarence V. Cuffee Community Center.
