Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register, Carr’s Hill is home to the President of the University of Virginia. Carr’s Hill provides indoor and outdoor meetings and entertainment space for small and large University events.

This was the first major renovation since it was constructed in 1909. Significant work included the replacement of all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, the addition of a fire suppression system, major structural repairs and a new roof. The goals of the project included the long-term preservation of this historic structure through an extensive assessment of existing and historic conditions, and a rehabilitation that minimized changes to significant architectural features while updating it for modern use and energy efficiency.  The full renovation was to take 18 months to complete. Carr’s Hill is a LEED Certified project. Energy consumption was reduced by installing efficient electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems and separating the building from the less efficient University district systems. Other energy-saving measures included a new roof and insulation, high performance glazing and envelope assemblies, and interior and exterior LED lighting.  The site design included the installation of low-flow indoor plumbing fixtures which also helped reduce indoor water use.
