PACE engineers are proud to have provided MEP design services for the new Colonel Samuel L. Slover Memorial Library in downtown Norfolk, Virginia. The new main library, comprised of the past, present and future includes historic restoration of the 47,600 SF Seaboard Building and 6,600 SF of the Selden Arcade, as well as 70,200 SF of new construction. A glass atrium entryway joins the buildings into a single complex. The new library features state-of-the art technology and offers access to books, computers, local history, study rooms for all ages and community meeting rooms. The electrical design included refurbishing some historical light fixtures, new LED and fluorescent lighting a full building lighting control system, fire alarm and two 230 kW natural gas generators mounted on an upper deck of the adjacent parking garage. Mechanical design included a unique underfloor air distribution system, modular chillers, cooling towers, gas boilers, DDC controls, stairwell pressurization and a smoke evacuation system.
